42 - Sad Day

I tend to grow attached to THINGS...yes, I know you can't take it with you, but I can't help it, somethings I just end up loving. What kind of things? Unlike many women I know, the things I love aren't fancy, big or shiny. My beloveds are things I have had many years and are like a part of my family. Case in point, I think I actually shed a tear when we got rid of my first mini van. It was worn, used and had a certain funky smell, but I loved it none-the-less. I didn't have to worry about taking it to baseball tournaments. I didn't have to worry about the doors getting dinged in the driveway. It was comfortable, I knew her well, we were like best friends. I took care of her, and she took care of me. Getting rid of her was like selling off a piece of me. I LIKE comfortable, I LIKE cozy, I LIKE that easy feeling of knowing what to expect. I had a friend of mine tell me how mad she was at her hubby because he compared her to his slippers. She was FURIOUS! She felt he was saying she was worn down, old and grungy. I told her he was actually giving her a HUGE compliment, He found her comfortable, dependable and was a perfect fit. But then again I am a woman who would be PERFECTLY happy if I was allowed to were jeans and a hoodie every day for the rest of my life!

So what does this have to do with today's pic? I am going to have to say goodbye to a beloved pan. It is the first stone I ever bought. It was a true splurge at the time. I have used it several times a week since I got it in 1998. Sadly, when I made my chocolate sheet cake this week, I noticed it was sticky on the bottom. Yes, it has finally decided to give into the thousands of uses, hundreds of recipes, and many, many degrees of heat and cracked on me. It is a sad day. Mr Incredible told me to "just go buy a new one" but he obviously does not understand the perfect state of "seasoning" it was in.

Good-bye dear friend, my kitchen will not be the same without you :-(
